Safety Gear Checklist
Manufacturing Industry

Safety gear is necessary for environments where there is a risk of fatal accidents and injuries. Wearing safety gear is critical to workers being able to work productively and safely in hazardous environments.

A hard hat is a helmet worn to avoid injuries on the head from falling objects, debris, weather-related elements. Hard hats are a significant contributing factor in keeping people safe from accidents on-site.
1. Introduction
The hard hat is a brightly colored and impact-resistant headgear, particularly for those working in hazardous conditions. These hard hats protect employees from the adverse effects of falling objects and, in specific scenarios, from accidental contact with electrical currents. Failure to wear this hard hat could prove to be dangerous and even fatal and will not only cost people their lives but could very well result in lengthy lawsuits, loss of labor, low productivity, and efficiency.
2. Process
The hard hat will only provide the necessary protection if worn correctly. To provide all the layers of security, they should be used as per the manufacturer’s recommendations for that specific model and brand that is being used and is in line with your workplace’s policies.
3. Dos
a. Always wear hard hats when performing risky activities.
b. Always remember to clean hard hats as and when needed, with the help of mild soap and water or any other cleaning solution provided by the manufacturer.
c. Make sure to keep the hard hat away from the direct sunlight and other places prone to high levels of heat (such as storing the hard hat at the back of a car).
d. Carry out regular inspections of the hard hat shell and ensure no signs of damage and deterioration before using it.
e. Replace the hard hat shell or suspension when there are obvious signs of deterioration.
4. Don’ts
a. Refrain from painting the hard hat as that could weaken the quality and strength of the hard hat shell, which in turn, would make it easier to break.
b. Avoid using solvents when cleaning a hard hat. Just like in the case of paints, the solvents, too, might compromise the strength of the hard hat shell.
c. Never try to modify or alter a hard hat. For example, trying to drill holes or inserting screws in a hard hat to add attachments can cause the hard hat’s shell to weaken and enable the electrical current to pass through.
d. Do not wear a hard hat backward.

Safety jackets are made up of reflective materials that prevent unwanted injuries by enabling the workers to be highly visible to others.
1. Introduction
Safety jackets are an article of personal protective equipment designed for high visibility while also providing a great deal of safety in the manufacturing units. Safety jackets are designed to keep the wearer in full view, and they also make different bright colors such as green, orange, and yellow to ensure that the jackets can be seen quickly and glow in the dark.
2. Process
Stringent safety regulations have called for high visibility safety gear clothing as it is essentially a form of personal protective equipment. The whole purpose of wearing high-visibility gear is to make the person wearing them more easily discernible and reduce the likelihood of adverse incidents caused by people not being seen. It is primarily donned by people who work in occupations where accidents are bound to happen. Tasks that are performed at night increase the possibility of accidents which is all the more reason why the workers should ideally wear a lighted safety jacket. The light source emanating from the vest, along with the stripes, glows brightly to produce better visibility.
3. Dos
a. The safety jackets should consist of bright and fluorescent colors, so it becomes easier to identify them and their location.
b. The jackets must feature some symbol, stripes, or even letters printed on them.
c. The sizing and fit of the safety jacket should be accurate to meet the workplace requirements.
4. Don’ts
a. Do not wear jackets that are large because the loose sleeves may get caught in a hazard.
b. The jacket should not be hefty because the worker will not have the full range of motion to perform heavy lifting.

Safety gloves protect your hand from injuries like cuts, chemical burns, abrasion, crushing, and direct contact with bio-hazard materials.
1. Introduction
Safety gloves are articles of protective clothing worn by workers to partially or even entirely cover their hands. In some instances, they may even wrap their arms. Such gloves help improve operational efficiencies, such as enhancing grip or maintaining sanitary conditions within manufacturing and commercial applications.
2.Process
The correct and firm grip is of utmost importance and must suit the specific needs of the manufacturing industry. The gloves fit must be best suited for the wearer to avoid any difficulty when performing tasks, and the materials used should be gentle to the skin and non-abrasive. The better the comfort and wearability of the gloves, the more inclined the employees would be to wear them. Here, the breathability factor comes into play, thereby curbing the possibility of skin conditions such as dermatitis.
3. Dos
a. The material of the gloves should provide resistance against cuts, abrasions, chemicals, cold, heat, etc.
b. The sizing, fit, and breathability of the gloves should be proper.
c. Make sure to wash your hands to remove harmful substances and chemicals properly.
4. Don’ts
a. Do not wear disposable gloves while performing heavy manufacturing tasks as they are made from thin materials.
b. Do not wear gloves that are ripped or torn.
c. If disposable gloves need to be worn, they should not be worn for extended periods because they provide little resistance from punctures, chemical burns, or tears.

Safety glasses help protect eyes from small particles, sparks, flames, and chemical splashes. In case of such accidents, substantial damage could be caused to the eyes of the person. Therefore, workers must wear safety glasses at all times during workplace operations.
1. Introduction
The safety glasses allow you to maintain optimum vision and protect your eyes from harmful elements. Applications of these safety glasses are found in welding, construction, and working in a lab with exposure to radiation or lasers.
2. Process
When eye safety is involved, the priority is to provide the correct eyewear solutions for those specific work environments. Face shields, goggles, and eyeglasses are among the various types of safety glasses found in manufacturing spaces, and each of them has its unique manner of use. Safety glasses tend to be a lot more ideal when the eye area does not need to be entirely enclosed to remain protected. A significant factor is that safety glasses should undergo mandatory evaluations and be approved by regulatory bodies. Once the eyeglasses meet the safety standards, they will deliver a greater sense of impact resistance when they come into contact with high-speed particles.
3. Dos
a. Workers should wear goggles that protect against eye-related hazards such as flying particles, dust, hot liquids, and molten metals.
b. Wear the correct eye gear as per the task you are performing and the materials you are handling.
c. Different workspaces require different lens shades and tints to block out the sunlight, accommodate various work applications.
4. Don’ts
a. Do not wear the eyewear without being adequately informed about the eyewear functions.
b. Do not remove them while performing risky tasks.
c. Do not wear eyewear that is loose or non–adjustable.
